Who We Are

The Florida Agribusiness Council, Inc. is a diverse consortium of agricultural and allied business interests promoting the development and implementation of effective, efficient natural resource management policy.  Virtually all sectors of Florida’s broad agricultural community are represented including, citrus, beef cattle, sod, vegetables, sugarcane and nursery production.

The Council works at the state, regional and local level with public and private sector stakeholders as an information resource to help policy makers deploy practical, forward thinking solutions that build on the framework of Florida’s existing environmental resource law and restoration programs.

What We Do

Increasingly, water resource managers across the state recognize that privately owned agricultural lands can play a significant role in meeting environmental restoration goals.  Innovative public – private partnerships that improve water quality and restore historical flows to downstream receiving waters have been authorized, funded and deployed to great local and regional benefit.  As Florida’s population continues to grow, these public – private partnerships can also be utilized to meet future water needs by contributing to local and regional alternative water supply development.  The Council promotes policy that builds on these successes and explores additional opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.

Preserving Water Quality and Water Quantity

Florida’s agricultural community has a long history and commitment to water resource protection and conservation.  The implementation of nutrient and irrigation best practices over the last two decades have saved 50 million gallons per day of water and prevented thousands of tons of nitrogen and phosphorus from entering ground and surface waters.  Sophisticated technologies like soil moisture probes, on-farm weather stations, GPS guided farm equipment, variable rate fertilizer applicators and remotely controlled irrigation systems are the new norm for modern agricultural operations.  Over time, the use of these tools will add to the successful water resource restoration efforts demonstrated in places like the St. John’s River, Tampa Bay and the Florida Everglades.

On the Cutting Edge of Water Conservation

Florida has the most comprehensive water protection and restoration program in the country.  No state has adopted more water quality goals than Florida.  No state has demonstrated its commitment to protecting vital natural resources more than Florida.  No industry is more devoted to these protection and restoration goals than Florida Agriculture.  We, as an industry, are in it for the long haul.
The Council has retained the services of Budell Water Group, based in Tallahassee, to represent their interests statewide.
